The Taplejung Gold Cup Football Tournament is to begin from August 31 (Thursday).
The tournament has been organized on the occasion of Lakhejatra (Lakhe Dance) since 2029 BS.
The football tournament has been held for the past three years due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Some eight teams, including domestic Manabhara Club are participating in the tournament. The hometown club will take on Jute Development Club in the inaugural match.
The tournament will be participated in by Fidim Sports Club from Panchthar, Red Horse Club from Ilam, Gorkha Sports Club and Red Star Club from Jhapa.
Pathari Footfall Club from Morang, Jute Development Football Club from Sunsari and the United Kharsang Club of Darjeeling, India are also taking part in the tournament, informed organizing committee chairperson Debraj Gurung.
The winner will bag a case prize of Rs 311,001 with trophy, medal and certificate while the first runner-up will receive Rs 111,111 cash prize along with a trophy, medal and certificate.
The tournament will take place on the sports ground of Bhanujan Secondary School based in district headquarters.
