Ukraine defeated Sweden by 2-1 and booked a place in their first-ever quarter-finals at a European Championship in the last Round of 16 match of Euro 2020 at the Hampden Park in Glasgow on Tuesday.
Ukraine's Oleksandr Zinchenko's left-footed half-volley in the 27th minutes had given team the initial lead, but Emil Forsberg equalised by scoring a goal from the edge of the penalty area just two minutes before halftime.
For the round of 16, Ukraine had been qualified with a third-place finish in Group C, but Sweden had topped Group E winning over Poland in their final match.
Both sides went for the win in the 90 minutes of normal time, but remained at 1-1 after 90 minutes. The game changed when Sweden's defender Marcus Danielson was given a red card for a studs-up. Along with Danielson's departure, Sweden's bad times started, as it faced high challenge in the nine minutes extra time. 10 men game changed the way Sweden played as they had made 3 changes just before the red card was handed after a VAR check.
As a decisive goal, Ukraine's Artem Dovbyk scored from a superb cross from Zinchenko and ensured Ukraine's journey to the quarter-final first time in history.
Ukraine will play against England in Saturday's quarter-final in Rome.
