The chairperson of the CPN (UML) KP Sharma Oli, and the suspended senior leader of the same party Madhav Kumar Nepal came close to each other after 5 months on Wednesday. Previously, they had met one-to-one on 23 Kartik, 2077.
In the two-hours' meeting arranged at hotel Marriott yesterday, leader Nepal urged the chairperson Oli to protect the party. After the meeting, Mr. Nepal had informed his closest fellows about the meeting. While briefing, Mr. Nepal informed that only the chairperson had spoken for the first one hour during the two-hours' meet.
According to leader Nepal, Mr. Oli had recalled all the main past events, from the background of unification between the two parties to the recent developments and tussles. Leader Nepal said he had pointed to Mr. Oli's weaknesses, and had also urged the latter to take initiatives for the party's unification. Further, he added that the meeting was ended saying to sit again because no rigid proposal was presented then there.
In the meeting, when suspended leader Nepal said that it was possible to prevent the party from being parted from the condition previous to 3 Jeshtha, 2075, chairperson Oli insisted that the party's recent situation had reached far ahead.
As mentioned by a source close to Mr. Oli, the chairperson had urged leader Nepal to stop conducting factional meetings. He, instead, requested the Nepal faction to participate in the party-meeting going to be held on 10 Baisakh. In the meeting, Mr. Oli had complained with Mr. Nepal about the act of the latter's faction, which had punished Mr. Oli four times reaching to the extent of expelling him even from the general membership of the party.
The tussle between the two factions of the party had taken a new height after the chairperson had recently demanded clarification about their anti-party activities with the 27 members of the parliament representing from the party.
Although the meeting was ended without making any concrete decision, political analysts say it could be the turning point for the party's reunification.
