A recent study about the ways of coronavirus transmission showed the evidence supporting that the airborne transmission was overwhelming, and also evidence supporting the large droplet transmission was almost non-existent.

In a new assessment published today in the medical journal Lancet, it is claimed that they have found consistent, strong evidence that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, is predominantly transmitted through the air.

The report further states that the predominantly airborne disease leave people unprotected and allow the virus to spread in a rapid rate. The research team, including six experts from the UK, USA and Canada, urged the World Health Organization to urgently aid public health agencies to adapt their description of transmission to the scientific evidence so that the focus of mitigation was put on reducing airborne transmission.

According to the report, silent transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from people who are not coughing or sneezing accounts for at least 40 percent of all transmission. This silent transmission is a key way Covid-19 has spread around the world.

Very surprisingly, the team found little to no evidence that the virus spreads easily through large droplets, which fall quickly through the air and contaminate surfaces.

The new finding has serious implications for public health measures designed to mitigate the pandemic. Along with the current 'droplet measures' such as hand washing and surface cleaning,  airborne measures, dealing with inhalation of infectious particles suspended in the air, should be given more importance.

The authoritative bodies in Nepal, including the ministry of health, needs to immediately adapt the new findings and step ahead accordingly.
